Scheletro di uomo o di animale? A chi appartengono i resti ossei che ritroviamo negli scavi archeologici

Human or animal skeleton? To whom belong the bone remains that we find in archaeological excavations

I resti umani e animali che emergono dagli scavi archeologici sono preziose testimonianze della nostra cultura passata. Questi resti che consistono in apparati scheletrici e dentari sono un formidabile mezzo di conoscenza utile a ricostruire la storia biologica della nostra specie, ma anche le pratiche di seppellimento usate nel passato e l’uso degli animali da parte dell’uomo antico come fonte di cibo e di materiale per vestirsi, per trasportare cose e persone, nella difesa e nella compagnia. I due Laboratori di Antropologia Fisica e di Archeozoologia del Dipartimento di Beni Culturali illustreranno le tecniche per imparare lo scheletro di un mammifero, per riconoscere le differenze tra uomo e animale e tra diversi animali sui resti archeologici; spiegheranno inoltre il contributo che queste discipline danno alla conoscenza della nostra storia.

The human and animal remains that emerge from archaeological excavations are precious evidence of our past culture. These bone and teeth remains are a formidable mean to know the biological history of our species, but also the burial practices used in the past and the use of animals by ancient people as food source, dressing material, for transport, for defense and company. The two Laboratories of Physical Anthropology and Zooarchaeology of the Department of Cultural Heritage together will illustrate the techniques for learning about the skeleton of mammals, to recognize the differences between man and animals and between different animal species on archaeological remains; they will also explain the contribution that these disciplines give to the knowledge of our history.
